How-to guides
Take a good stamp photo
- Lay the stamp on a flat, plain surface in even light.
- Take it out of a plastic sleeve or mount if you can; glare hides the details.
- Fill the square guide with the stamp and hold still. The app tells you if the photo is blurry, too far away or has glare.
Scan a whole album page
- On Home, tap Scan a page.
- Lay the album flat and shoot from directly above.
- Check the boxes: tap a box to remove it, or tap Add a missed stamp.
- Tap Identify. Stamps that need your help are marked in the page summary.
Pick the right match
- If we are not sure, you see Which one is it? with three candidates.
- Compare the picture, the face value and the colour with your stamp.
- Tap the closest one, or None of these. Your pick helps us improve.
Add your own catalog number
- Open a stamp from a result or your collection.
- Under Your catalog numbers, tap Add and pick Scott, SG, Michel, Yvert or other.
- The number stays on your phone.
Restore or cancel Pro
- Restore: Settings, then Restore purchases, signed in to the same Apple Account or Google account you bought with.
- Cancel on iPhone: Settings app, your name, Subscriptions, Stamp Lens.
- Cancel on Android: Google Play, profile picture, Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions, Stamp Lens.
Frequently asked questions
How does Stamp Lens identify a stamp?
The app finds and crops each stamp on your phone, then sends only those crops to our server. The server compares the crop with the images in our own stamp catalog and returns the closest matches. For hard cases a vision AI model may compare your crop with those catalog candidates and read the text and face value. It picks from real catalog entries; it never invents one or names a price.
Why do I sometimes get three choices instead of one answer?
When we are not sure, we say so. You see the top three candidates with a confidence level and a reference picture, and you pick the right one (or None of these). Your pick helps us improve the catalog.
Will the same photo give a different answer next time?
No. Results come from our catalog, not from a guess, and a rescan of the same photo returns the same answer.
Can I scan a whole album page?
Yes. Lay the album flat and shoot from directly above. The app finds up to 40 stamps on the page, lets you remove or add boxes, then identifies them all and gives you a page summary.
How much are my stamps worth?
Most common stamps sell for a few cents. When Stamp Lens shows a value, it is a range with a confidence level and the reason behind it, never a range wider than 10 times. If a stamp may be valuable, we flag it and suggest getting an expert opinion. Values are estimates only, not an appraisal.
Why are there no Scott, Stanley Gibbons or Michel numbers?
Those numbering systems and their prices belong to their publishers, so we don't copy them. You can type your own catalog numbers into any stamp; they stay on your phone.
Do my photos leave my phone?
Your full photo stays on your phone. Only the cropped stamps, with location and other photo metadata removed, are sent when you tap scan. Your collection is stored on your device.
Is it free?
Stamp Lens is free to download with free scans every day and no ads, ever. Stamp Lens Pro unlocks unlimited scans, album pages, value estimates and export. Prices will be shown in the app before you buy.
When can I download it?
Stamp Lens is coming soon to the App Store and Google Play.
Report a wrong result
Use Report wrong ID on the result screen, or email us. Tell us the country and year if you know them. A photo of the stamp helps; we only receive it if you choose to send it.
Delete your data
Your collection is on your phone; deleting the app deletes it. To ask us to delete anything we hold, email support@stamplens.app. See the Privacy Policy for what that is.
